Tenet resigns from the CIA. So, disaster for Bush? Not really. The announcement was scheduled so as to cast Bush in the light of surprised superior, while Tenet is left looking like the man who personally took the blow (and the blame) for the intelligence cock-up over Iraq. Net result, the National Security Council have a former member to point the finger at, Bush can praise the integrity of staff ready to resign rather than be foreced into quitting and, an extra bonus, the man in question was a Clinton appointee. Trebles all round at the White House as this could well finally dampen down the WMD furore.
Of course, this does leave the small matter of ongoing chaos in Iraq and the unknown of post-handover government. Guess Rumsfeld must be feeling a bit uncomfortable.
